March 27, 2006 -- With the introduction of the CS5464 and CS5467 from Cirrus Logic, Inc., manufacturers of residential power meters can implement more reliable, lower-cost and higher-accuracy power meters for measuring consumer power usage. Targeting India and other fast-developing markets for residential power measurement applications, the CS5464 delivers superior power-measurement performance by utilizing fourth-order Delta Sigma 24-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for measuring current, offering double the dynamic range of competing ICs. The CS5464 also features advanced programmable fault/tamper detection - an important feature in energy theft prevention within industrial and residential environments.
For the electrical meter market where reliability and accuracy are key, Cirrus Logic's new solution provides the design flexibility to help makers of residential power meters reduce costs and get to market faster with a better-quality power meter product. To achieve this, the CS5464 and CS5467's features include system-level calibration, temperature sensing, voltage sag, current fault detection and phase compensation.
