December 19, 2006 -- Wipro Technologies has become Tensilica, Inc.'s newest processor core design center partner. As a Tensilica design center and Tensilica Xtensions Network partner, Wipro will combine its extensive intellectual property (IP) portfolio, systems knowledge, architecture modeling and verification expertise with system-on-chip (SOC) design services for customers using Tensilica's Xtensa configurable processors or Diamond Standard processor cores.

"Our advanced algorithm group has been actively evaluating processors to address the low-cost, enhanced computing requirements of applications in the biometric space, such as fingerprint recognition/matching," said Madhu Parthasarathy, General Manager, DSP & Multimedia Applications, Wipro Technologies. "The Tensilica Diamond processor series meet the requirements and also offers the added advantage of a logically scalable path to extend our algorithms to a wider range of applications that our HW-SW architecture group and the HW acceleration service lines view as essential to cater to the complex SOC requirements in the future."

"Wipro has been executing complex SOC designs for the last 10 years, particularly those employing intellectual property from a number of sources," stated Steve Roddy, Tensilica's Vice President of Marketing. "As a design services organization that delivers more than 50 SOC designs a year, Wipro will be equipped to help with a wide variety of design services."

As one of the largest independent third-party design services providers in the world, Wipro's VLSI and System Design business unit offer end-to-end solutions in the VLSI domain. This team handles projects across the entire design chain starting from defining the architecture through (or to) end product realization. These include high-end ASIC development, complex FPGA and board designs, turnkey system designs and core technology IP blocks along with porting and optimizing complex algorithms and audio/video codecs to a wide range of DSP architectures.
